GPS and Sports Center join the force
A group of GP practices in Sussex have joined the army with a sports center operator to open a new healthcare service.
The South Downs Health and Care GP Federation (SDHC), and Wave Active bought a vacant Hillbro Sports Campus in Eastbour in 2024, to vacate the site after Briton’s decision of Brighton University.
SDHC is a social enterprise working in East Sussex, providing NHS healthcare services and private appointments. Wave Activated the Sports and Holiday Centers on behalf of the active Lewis District Council and Eastborne Boro Council.
Two organizations say they believe that there are NHS services and a sports center combines its services, “the first to the UK” in Community Health Services.
‘Vishal steps ahead’
Once the hillbro is completely operational, SDHC is expected to provide over 200 immediate NHS appointments each week with a new GP training hub.
A spokesperson says that he believes that it can be “other places for GP training in GP practices and hospitals”.
Dr. at SDHC Nick Harvey, GP & CEO described it as a “ground-breaking moment”.
He said, “We are integrating our services, including physical activity-focused health and immediate treatment with the provision of good, all within a modern multi-functional complex.”
Duncan Kerr, CEO of Wave Active, said that it was “a very big step ahead” and would enable “fully integrated healthcare and good services” in our community.
In addition to immediate appointments in Hilbro visitors, there will be access to vaccination, Felobomi and Weight Los Clinic, Memory Assessment Services and Physiotherapy from April 22.
James Ramse, Chief Medical Officer of NHS Sussex, said: “Our ambition for health and care was formed by the government’s plan, joining health and care for more care presented within our communities.
“This is a great example of how it will work – focusing on the needs of the local population.”
