The mercury dropped to zero degrees Celsius in Chenduvarai Estate Lower Division on Tuesday, the coldest day of the season. According to reports, this surprise cold brought snowfall in the grasslands of Munnar, turning the lush greenery of Devikulam, Silent Valley and Lakshmi Estate into frosty landscapes. With temperatures dropping as low as 2 degrees Celsius in other parts of Munnar, this unexpected twist is attracting winter-lovers from far and wide. Anamudi Peak is the highest peak in South India, at an altitude of 2,695 metres. With proper permits from the forest and wildlife authorities, you can embark on a challenging but rewarding journey to its summit. The peak and the surrounding Eravikulam National Park are home to the largest surviving population of Asian elephants, gaur (wild cattle) and Nilgiri tahr.

Established in 1978, Eravikulam National Park is home to the endangered Nilgiri tahr, a mountain goat, as well as a diverse variety of flora and fauna. Spread over 97 square kilometres, the park offers breathtaking trekking trails and the opportunity to view the enchanting Neelakurinji flowers, which bloom once in twelve years.

Tea Museum

The Tea Museum, established by Tata Tea in 2005, offers a fascinating glimpse into the history of tea production. Located in the Nallathanni Estate, the museum exhibits the evolution of tea making machinery and processes. You can learn about different types of tea, taste different teas and experience the rich heritage of tea cultivation in the region. The museum is open daily from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm except Monday.
