This year has been unique in many ways. Staying indoors and minimising contact is the best way to show care; this is why even ‘celebrations’ are a little different now. With Independence Day 2024 just around the corner, our hearts are brimming with pride for a country that has struggled and endured so much in history. Since we are fighting the pandemic together, the celebration levels might be a little subdued this time, but we know it is all for the good, and for our safety and good health. The biggest lesson that 2020 has taught us is that we must prioritise our health now. Speaking of health, Indian home remedies or Prescriptions Now receiving acclaim worldwide, there are many drinks and concoctions that are known to work wonders for digestion, which according to Ayurveda is one of the key factors for good health.
Here are 5 Native Beverages that have been known since ancient times for their digestive benefits:
1. Jalajeera
This tangy drink made from mint water, spiced with cumin and chillies, is an explosion of flavour. It is often served with some spices. Bundi Which float beautifully on top of the drink. This is one of the most colourful and healthy drinks that we can never have enough of.

2. Kanji
Did you know that this fermented drink from Rajasthan is a great example of making the most of local and seasonal produce?! Kanji is usually made from fermented vegetables like carrots, beetroot or berries. Spices like mustard or asafoetida give this drink a tangy flavour. It is good for both the gut and digestion.

3. Masala Buttermilk
Chas (or chaas) made from curd mixed with salt and some spices is a perfect drink to quench thirst in summers. It can also do wonders for the stomach due to the presence of curd. Curd also soothes your stomach lining.

4. Soul Cadi
The Konkani drink is made from the superfood kokum, coconut, hot water and garlic. It is mostly mild, but has a little spiciness to it as well. The cool and refreshing kokum fruit helps to soothe the stomach, and also helps to cure many digestive ailments and liver problems.
5. Mango Pana
Made with raw mango and digestion-friendly ingredients like cumin, rock salt and mint, this product is packed with pectin fibre found in raw mango itself. The fibre bulks up the stool and regulates digestion.
