According to experts, how eating fast causes gas and bloating:
1. Swallowing Air:
When you eat quickly, you are also swallowing a lot of air. As Namami explains, this trapped air accumulates in your stomach, causing gas and bloating. Solution? Slow down and savor each bite.
2. Not chewing enough:
Another culprit? Not chewing your food sufficiently. Nwami explains that when you eat fast, food goes into your stomach in larger pieces, making it harder for your digestive enzymes to do their job. outcome? Gas is produced by fermentation in your intestine. Therefore, take time to chew your food thoroughly to help break it down into smaller pieces.
3. Ignoring your fullness signals:
Did you know that eating too quickly impairs your brain’s ability to register when you are full? This can lead to the habit of overeating, which can lead to bloating, gas and even flatulence. The pressure on your digestive system only makes things worse.
How to Prevent Gas and Bloating While Eating?
1. Be careful:
Take small pieces and chew thoroughly – aim for 20-30 chews per bite. It helps break down your food before it reaches your stomach.
2. Slow down:
Put your fork down between bites. This reduces air intake and gives your stomach time to process the food.
3. Drink water:
Drink water throughout the day, but don’t drink too much during meals, as this can dilute stomach acid and slow down digestion.
4. Avoid talking while eating:
Talking while chewing increases the chance of swallowing air, which makes bloating worse.
