Imagine if traveling from Mumbai to Pune could be as convenient as just 25 minutes! Thanks to IIT Madras, this imagination will now turn into reality.
According to reports, India’s first attempt with this transportation technology was launched when IIT Madras unveiled a 410-meter hyperloop test track.
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has repeatedly praised this achievement and the collaboration between Indian Railways, TUTR (an incubated business) and the Aavishkaar Hyperloop team of IIT Madras.

The project is divided into two phases: a 100-kilometre extension and an initial 11.5-kilometre test track to show system dependability. For those unaware, Hyperloop was first conceptualized by Elon Musk in 2012. It is a high-speed transport system capable of speeds up to 1,100 km per hour.

Currently, the Mumbai-Pune route has been selected for India’s first full-scale Hyperloop system. If the hypothesis comes true, this ambitious project will reduce the travel time between the two cities to just 25 minutes, less than air travel. Ticket prices are expected to be between Rs 1,000 and Rs 1,500. It has the capacity to carry 24 to 28 passengers.
