Along with being the youngest, comes with hands-down, unseen opinion and endless comparison. But don’t worry – there are clever ways to listen to yourself without drama!

Great as younger brother, it has its own shortcomings, and no one warned us about it. We receive hand-me-down, we are always referred to as “younger brothers or sisters of so-end-so”, and the worst-no one takes our opinion seriously. We are saying the deepest thing of the century, and yet, whatever we receive, it has been distracted by our elder brothers and sisters or “no longer” from our parents.
It may be disappointing to be ignored, especially when you feel that you have valuable insight to offer. But don’t worry-there are ways to listen to yourself without resorting to Natural Table-Flipping (as it may be). This way:
1. Your voice itself: is a confident key. Even if your elder brother -in -law separates your thoughts, then continue to give them voice. The more you give your opinion, the more they know that you have something to contribute. Consistency in this case is your friend – in fact, they will start notice that you understand.
2. Choose the right moment: If you are trying to create a point when your brother is in the middle of Netflix biping or your parents are doing one million things, you can talk to a wall. Time is important. Hold them in a quiet moment when they are more likely to hear.
3. Make it inaccessible: In other times, the most effective way of listening to people is to tell them some amazing or practical that they need to stop and pay attention. Share a general knowledge fact in dinner, frame your argument in an innovative way, or even a joke – it is difficult to ignore someone who can make you laugh.
4. Flip the script: It was ever seen that parents or elder brother -in -law enjoy giving advice? Turn it around – face them with questions that they need to think. Including them in a dialogue where they are heard, they may be more likely to return the favor.
5. Take a deep breath and accept what you cannot change: Ultimately, there are some older brothers and sisters who will never stop thinking about you as brother -in -law of your ‘child’, and parents may always have a tendency to favor the elder child’s opinion. This is madness, but do not make your self -esteem the basis on it. Look for other places – friends, teachers, mentors – where your voice will be heard.
