Need bloated rice? Padma Lakshmi explains why washing rice is so important

On Friday, he posted a video as explained why washing rice in cooking is an essential step. Padma Lakshmi says, “So people don’t realize that the first important step to cook basmati rice is to wash it.”

Holding a rice bowl, Padma Lakshmi shows dirty water when rinse for the first time and says that the starch comes out by rinse. She explains how to rinse until the water is “clean”. Padma Lakshmi mentions that people do not wash their rice because they feel that it destroys nutrients. She further says, “I have been raised to wash rice.” According to her, the removal of starch makes sure that the rice becomes completely “bloated”. She describes this process as “meditative” and says that she loves to stand near the window and rotate the rice in water.

In her caption, Padma Lakshmi wrote, “Don’t forget to wash your basmati rice until the water comes out clean !!” What you are not seeing is that before getting ready to cook, I washed this rice at least seven times.
