Popular Hospitality Brands oyo has recently made changes to its check-in policy that no longer allows unmarried couples to check-in at its properties. This step has been started in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh which can be implemented in other areas also in future. The guidelines set by OYO will be implemented from this year.
Earlier, OYO partner hotels could not refuse couples, whether they were married or not. However, the revised policy asks for valid proof of relationship at the time of check-in, including bookings made online. Oyo Hotel They have the discretion to reject couple bookings based on their judgment and as per local sensitivities.

One of the main reasons for the move includes the backlash received from civil society groups for banning unmarried couples from checking-in to Oyo properties. “OYO is committed to maintaining safe and responsible hospitality practices. While we respect individual freedoms and individual liberty, we also understand our responsibility to listen to and work with law enforcement and civil society groups in the micro-markets in which we operate,” Pavas Sharma, quoted news agency PTI as saying. quoted the region head, Oyo North India.
Although it may seem like OYO is closing the door to young couples, the company clarified that it is not a complete ban. The decision to accept or reject a booking depends on the individual hotels. That said, couples may still face awkward moments at the check-in desk. There have been mixed reactions to this move. While some laud Oyo for being in tune with cultural sensitivities, others argue that it undermines the rights of consenting adults. Either way, the hospitality giant is determined to prioritize its family-friendly image.
