In an important step towards sustainable tourism, maharashtra tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) has introduced a fleet of electric buses to transport visitors to world-famous places Ajanta CavesThe initiative aims to reduce carbon emissions and provide a more eco-friendly experience to tourists.

According to reports, the new buses will provide convenient transportation from the parking lot to the cave site. The electric buses will be both air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned and will be able to carry 14 to 22 passengers at a time. They will serve both domestic and international tourists. Previously, visitors relied on diesel buses, which often faced long waits. The electric bus fleet provides a significant upgrade, ensuring faster and more eco-friendly transport. Additionally, during the visit tourists can also enjoy an informative film on the history of Ajanta Caves.

To further improve the visitor experience, the Maharashtra Tourism Department is also developing a user-friendly booking system. This online platform will streamline the reservation process, making it easier for tourists to plan their visit to Ajanta Caves.

The Ajanta Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Maharashtra, are an excellent example of ancient Indian art, architecture and religious devotion. Carved into the rocks of the Sahyadri hills, these 30 rock-cut Buddhist caves date from the 2nd century BC to the 6th century AD. In fact, the Ajanta Caves were abandoned in the 5th century AD and were not discovered by the outside world until almost 1,400 years later by a young British cavalry officer, John Smith, who was hunting tigers in the area.
