In many parts of India, bananas are often sold by the dozen and street vendors offer fairly cheap prices. But can you imagine paying Rs 100 just for one banana? This is exactly what happened to an influential man from Britain named Hugh during his visit to India. He noticed a street vendor who was selling bananas at an unusually high price. Hugh documented the experience and shared the clip on Instagram. The video has since gone viral and has been viewed 6.5 million times.
The viral reel begins with Hugh approaching a vendor who has bananas on his cart. When Hugh asked the price, the seller quoted the price of one banana as Rs 100. Puzzled, Hugh reconfirmed, but the salesman repeated the price. “This is foreign pricing,” the vlogger claims. Hugh is surprised and says, “Wow, what a crazy price. I can’t pay that. You’re going to lose the sale. I’m not paying 100 bucks.” Then he leaves. Later, Hugh compared the price of bananas to the price of bananas in the UK. He explains, “It’s 1 GBP for one banana. In the UK, you can buy about 8 bananas for 1 GBP.”
