Gulmarg, Jammu and Kashmir

Often called the “Ski Capital of India”, Gulmarg is a winter wonderland with world-class skiing slopes and breathtaking views of the Himalayas. It has five international-grade Poma ski lifts and the Gulmarg Gondola, one of the highest cable cars in the world, covering a distance of 2.7 km with vertical elevation ranging from 1,280 m to 3,980 m near Mount Afarwat. The best time for skiing in Gulmarg is from mid-December to mid-April when the area receives ample snowfall. For beginners, the lower slopes provide an easy way to learn, while experienced skiers can challenge themselves on steeper terrain. You can rent equipment for skiing from a ski shop owned by Jammu and Kashmir Tourism.

Manali, a popular tourist destination, offers a variety of winter activities including skiing and snowboarding. Solang Valley, located at a distance of 12 kilometers from Manali, is a popular skiing destination with slopes suitable for both beginners and experts. The stunning natural beauty of the valley, combined with the thrill of winter sports, makes it a memorable experience for families. Solang Valley’s infrastructure is limited – its cable car covers only 1.3 km with a vertical height of 500 m to Mount Fataru (3,200 m) and has only one Poma ski-lift. Furthermore there are no dedicated equipment shops; Skis should be rented from local travel companies.
