Jetline Roller Coaster in Stockholm, Sweden

On June 25, 2023, at Sweden’s oldest amusement park, i.e. Grönd Lund, a tragedy occurred when one of the trains on the Jetline roller coaster derailed. Just picture this: Train derails with 14 people on board! Sadly, some passengers were removed from the ride. He was injured and taken to hospital. One person also lost his life in this horrific accident.

Orlando Freefall in Orlando, Florida

A 14-year-old boy lost his life due to a locking malfunction. He was enjoying the ride on Orlando Freefall at ICON Park in the year 2022 when he fell from his seat. Following the incident, the Orlando Freefall was dismantled. In fact, other amusement parks that had similar rides by the same manufacturer also temporarily closed their rides pending the completion of the investigation.

Ride of Steel in Darien, New York

This incident happened in 2011. A US Army veteran who lost both his legs due to an injury was allowed to enjoy the ride when he should not have been allowed to in the first place. The man fell to his death from the Ride of Steel at Six Flags Park in New York because his legs could not be secured under the lap belt. As per investigation, no error was found on the part of the operator. However, it was the violation of safety regulation that led to this tragic incident. Following the accident, the ride was closed for two weeks before resuming operations.

Askari Amusement Park in Karachi, Pakistan

The incident took place in this park in 2018. A ride that was swinging passengers in a pendulum direction suddenly broke down in the middle of the ride. About 25 people were injured and the accident proved fatal for a 12-year-old child. It was a malfunction that led to the tragedy. Interestingly, the park was opened just a month before the day the accident occurred. After the accident, the park was closed for about 6 months.

Six Flags Adventure in Jackson Township, New Jersey

The incident dates back to 1984 when eight teenagers lost their lives in a fire at Six Flags Adventure in Jackson Township, New Jersey. The fire was caused by an electrical fault in the ‘Sky Ride’. Spectators saw smoke and flames coming from the ride and the eight teenagers who lost their lives were having fun in two separate Gondola cars. Sadly, he could not escape and lost his life on the spot.
