day 1

Morning

Visit Kamakhya Temple

Start your day with a visit to the iconic Kamakhya Temple, one of the most revered Shakti Peethas in India. It is believed that the yoni (female genitalia) of Goddess Sati fell here; This makes Kamakhya one of the most revered centers of Tantric practices. A unique festival called Ambubachi Mela is also celebrated in the temple, in which the goddess is worshiped during her menstrual period. Situated on Neelachal hill, this temple also offers a picturesque view of the Brahmaputra river.

Explore Umananda Island

One of Guwahati’s top attractions, Umanand Island, also known as Peacock Island, is a short ferry ride away from the city. The island is home to the Umananda Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, and offers a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. The island is also home to the rare golden langur monkeys and a variety of birds.
