A 38 -year -old woman felt a tingling on her left cheek after a “journey of her dreams” recently for Antarctica. Rejecting it as stress, he ignored it until the “emotion” spread to his nose, eye and head and became so intense that to catch his head in pain.
Nicola Shaw of Manchester went to see the doctor, who asked him to do an MRI, showing that he had meningoma – a rare and dangerous tumor that was located right next to her brain stem and left the optic nerve.
Soon, Nikola underwent ten -hour surgery that was capable of removing 95 percent of the tumor, but in the next six months it increased to 17 millimeters. She then undergone gamma knife radiotherapy, a non-invasive radiotherapy treatment, which uses gamma rays to treat tumors and wounds in the brain, which took a huge toll on her health. She suffered from dual vision, memory loss and jaw pain.
“At that time, I thought it was an overlapping, but I went with it and saw an expert in a private hospital in Chicago. When the neurologist suggested that I need an MRI, I hesitate, thinking that it was unnecessary and at the top. After all, I never expected what was going to come, ”Nikola said, a primary school teacher.
“He (doctor) explained that my tumor was removed nine out of ten in terms of difficulty, and only 2 percent of cases are found in this place. This did not expect me to me at all, but after a second opinion, we decided to operate, ”he said.

Backward trauma

After Nicola’s surgery, she was very high to handle. “They had to put four screws in my head, numb each area with three injections per screw. The pain was painful, and I shouted and begged to stop them, ”he said.
Nikola said, “When they reached the fourth screw, they had to escape from my titanium plate and in doing so, cut my eyelid, which it was bleeding and giving me a black eye and mark,” Nikola said.
She then returned to the UK to focus on her physical and mental recovery, spent the next nine months in treatment while participating in sessions with a physician. Now, with a regular scan for monitoring your brain after a year of radiotherapy, the tumor is fortunately stable.
