Located 40 km off the north coast of Iceland, the island is one of the most remote settlements in Europe and also has a rich bird population. Grimsey Fewer than 100 people live here but there are more than a million sea birds, including puffins and dive-bombing Arctic terns. Travelers from all over the world come here to cross the Arctic Circle and get a certificate of having just been there.
This one-stop destination is a day trip you will remember for a lifetime.
Until 1931, the only way to reach Grimsey was to take a small boat that delivered letters to the island twice a year. However, connectivity has become a bit better now. Now, you can take a 20-minute flight from Akureyri city and a three-hour ferry from Dalvik village.
